Poker Run to Rio Rico
February 26, 2006
The February activitity started in Tucson. It was breezy, with an overcast sky, but 31 street rods and a few other cruisers must have heard it was going to be a beautiful sunny 81 degree day. Jim and Annie showed up with dozens of Krispy Kremes. Instead of waiting at card stops along the way, several couples helped everyone draw their five cards and buy combination raffle 50/50 tickets. Members had a nice cruise to the Esplendor Resort in Rio Rico, where we gathered on the outside patio and enjoyed the views, while some people bought extra poker cards and raffle tickets. Soon the brunch buffet was ready and the dining room was clear for the group to feast on bacon and eggs, salads, salmon, shrimp, beef, chicken, pork, potatoes, fruit, desserts and more!
Many club members donated items for the raffle prizes that were given away after brunch. George won the 50/50. Daune won the Best Poker Hand. Randy had the Worst Hand. Just about everyone went home with something besides having a fun time and sharing a beautiful day with friends and cars.
Part of the group headed home or to the casino, while some had their cars inspected. Others went to the Tumacacori National Historical Park and took the guided tour of the patio garden, museum, and mission. It is the oldest mission in Arizona and has a very intersting history. At the end of the tour, some members sampled Carlota's medium hot filled mini tortillas on the patio. Some members also stopped by Tubac, where they found a shady spot to enjoy some ice cream and visit. A few men had some shopping to do before returning to Tucson.
Thanks to Jeannie and Tony for all the time and planning of the brunch, getting the donations, etc. so we all could have a good time. Special thanks to Megan (who was very patient), Jim, those who sold tickets and helpted with the card drawing and everyone who participated. Without the people there is no party!
